Accessibility
We strive to make our adventures available for everyone
The Whale Center: there is an entrance to the left of the main door that is wheelchair accessible via a ramp. The door can be a little difficult to open, so some assistance may be needed. Here you will also find toilets adapted for people with disabilities. The reception, toilets, and the Moby Dick café are all on the main floor and easily accessible. We aim to maintain open spaces so that everyone can move around comfortably.
The Whale Exhibition is in the basement and is accessible from the pier for wheelchair users. Wheelchairs can be used in every room of the exhibition. The Skeleton Room is in a separate building, but it is also wheelchair accessible via a ramp.
Challenges: due to limited space, moving around in the Skeleton Room can be challenging, especially when crowded.
The reception at Fyrvika: this area, where RIB excursions depart, has wheelchair-accessible entrances. Toilets adapted for people with disabilities are also available.
For our boat-adventures:
Wheelchair users or people with other disabilities may be able to participate in bird- and whale-watching tours. Below it’s an overview of the available options:
Large Boat: manual wheelchairs can be accommodated on board. Boarding from the pier and onto the boat can be steep, so crew assistance will be needed. The crew uses a microphone to ensure everyone can hear instructions.
Challenges: toilets on the large boat are not wheelchair accessible, and the trip duration can be relatively long (3–4 hours).
For the smaller boat (RIB): if you can sit independently in the boat, you can join a RIB tour. Wheelchairs cannot be taken on board, but assistance is provided to help you reach the boat and board safely into a seat. Our RIB boats have hydraulic seats designed to reduce pressure on the back, which is also beneficial for those with reduced leg mobility or back problems.
Skjervøy: for accessibility questions regarding our operations in Skjervøy, please contact us. The area and trips are more challenging than those in Andenes.
Andenes Camping: the area around Andenes Camping is flat and easy to navigate for guests with mobility challenges or wheelchair users. There is a disabled toilet, and the reception has a wheelchair ramp. Please note: the space at the entrance can be a bit tight, so take care when entering.
Accessibility in short:
