Accessibility
We strive to make our adventures available for everyone
The Whale Center: we have an entrance to the left of the main door that is wheelchair accessible with a ramp. The door can be a little difficult, so unfortunately you might need some help to get this open. Here you will also find toilets adapted for disabled. The reception, toilets and the Moby Dick café is on the main floor and all easily accessible. We strive to have good open spaces so you can get around easily.
The Whale Exhibition is in the basement. This is accessible from the pier for wheelchair users. You will be able to use the wheelchair in every room of the exhibition. The Skeleton-room is in a different building, but also here, there is a ramp for wheelchairs.
Challenges: In the Skelton-room it can be difficult to get around, especially if there is a lot of people in the room.
The receptions at Brygga and Fyrvika: (where you start your RIB excursions from), there are entrances adapted for wheelchairs. There are also toilets adapted for disabled.
For our boat-adventures:
It can be possible to participate in bird- and whale watching tours for wheelchair users or people with other disabilities. We will below specify what we can offer:
For the large boat: We can have manual wheelchairs on board. It can be steep for the chair from the pier and onboard the boat, and our crew will have to give a hand. The crew uses a microphone to make sure that people can hear well.
Challenges: The toilets on board of the large boat are not adapted for disabled, and the trip can be long (3-4 hours).
For the smaller boat (RIB): If you can sit in the boat by yourself, you can participate on a tour with the RIB boat. It is not possible to have the wheelchair onboard, but it is accessible for you to get to the side of the boat and be helped on board from here. Our RIB boats have hydraulic seats to avoid unnecessary pressure on your back. This is also an advantage for those with reduced leg mobility or problems with the back.
Skjervøy: For our operations in Skjervøy we ask you to contact us for questions about accessibility. The area and the trips are a bit more challenging that the ones in Andenes.
Andenes Camping: The area around Andenes camping is flat and easily accessible for those with balance issues or wheelchair users. There is a disabled toilet, and the entrance to the reception has a wheelchair ramp. NB! It might be a little tight on the spot when you open the door.
Accessibility in short:
- Access to our buildings with wheelchairs
- Disabled toilet at all our reception
- Aid on board our boats
